Garmisch Partenkirchen Ski Trip

Garmisch Germany - February 2010 Ski Trip

We went to Garmisch Germany for a ski trip with a group from Wassenaar. It was organized by a guy from NATO and included a group from the US Embassy and friends. We stayed at Edelweisse Lodge which is a US Army Recreation facility. It was a nice place and US Soil with US food and all in US $. Nice.

The Lodge at Edelweisse.

The view from the parking lot the day we arrived.

Andrew and his friend Kris.

Day 1 skiing on the slopes. Nice conditions, soft snow, warm weather. Fantastic views.

Joan and Andrew on the slopes.

Halfway down the mountain.

The view from up top.

More peaks in the distance.

The trails down.

This is the top of the Alpenspitze mountain. One of 2 mountains we skied.

This is looking at the Bowls at Zugspitze. Its hard to tell the scale but the little black specks are T-Bar posts. Most of the rides up are T-Bars. The bowl is huge.

Another view of the bowl.

From the summit at Zugspitze (2900 meters high...the highest point in Germany). looking down on the Bowl.

Looking down again.

Rob and Andrew at the lodge at Zugspitze.

Looking up at the Summit Lodge. Thew cabel car takes about 5 minutes to get up top from the ski lodge.

More mountains....they were everywhere. Fantastic views 360 degrees.

What a great place to be.

Rob and Dave, a friend, at the Summit. The gold star behind is the actual peak. its 2962 Meters above sea level. We live at 65 meters below sea level. Quite a change.

The highest point in Germany.

The Chapel at Zugspitze.

Rob and Andrew at Alpenspitze near the 6 man chair lift.

Joan and Andrew on the slopes.

On the train to Zugspitze. Its about an hour train ride from the valley up to the ski summit. It is a cog train that crawls up through the mountain to the top. Old world cool.

Andrew and his friends on their boards.

The Adults at the Aplenspitze Lodge.

Boys and Dads skiing on our last day. It was 7 degrees (centrigrade) and raining in the valley. We had 6 inches of fresh powder and 2 degrees on the mountain.....no one wanted to go but us....we had the mountain to ourselves for the first 2 hours. FANTASTIC SKIING.

Adnrew and Rob at the Summit at Zugspitze. It was crystal clear....-20 degrees centrigrade and a 20-30 know wind....Brrrrrrrr.

Andrew on the slopes. The town of Garmisch is below in the valley.

Andrew and friends at Zugspitze.

A small church on the way to Zugspitze from the train.

Rob and Joan enjoying a German meal.
